They’re plugs, not “gauges”.
A “gauge” is a size, a measurement. It is not the act of stretching because that is stretching or tapering. If you wanted to gauge your ear piercings, that would mean that you wanted to find out the piercing size. The jewelry is a plug, tunnel, hoop, etc…
Those of you, who refer to plugs as “gauges” need to relearn English.
